Towards a Sustainable Future: Handbook for the green transition of VET organisations
We are pleased to present the latest collaborative development within the INVESTech Project “Handbook for the green transition of VET organisations”.
This document is a key resource, adapted in Bulgarian, to support our educational institutions and partners in the transition to a greener and more sustainable economy.
Digital transformation is a key enabler of the green transition.
Digital technologies - such as data-driven systems, automation, and smart infrastructures - support energy efficiency, circular economy practices, and innovative business models, while reshaping professional profiles and skill requirements.
As a result, the integration of green and digital skills is becoming increasingly important for the workforce in the near and more distant future. In this context, VET plays a particularly strategic role. VET systems are uniquely positioned to respond to rapidly changing labour market needs, as they link education directly to employment, practical skills, and local economic ecosystems.
Why is this handbook important?
The green transition is not just a technological change, but a fundamental social and educational process. The handbook offers a systematic, step-by-step approach to integrating sustainability into every aspect of vocational training – from curricula to the management of school infrastructure.
What are the benefits?
The document has been developed with all actors in the vocational education ecosystem in mind:
- For learners: Provides access to new jobs in sectors such as renewable energy and the circular economy, while developing critical thinking and social responsibility.
- For teachers: Offers modern teaching methods (such as experiential learning) and tools for integrating green skills into existing subjects.
- For businesses: Ensures the preparation of a skilled workforce that has up-to-date technical and environmental competencies needed to compete in the market.
- For society: Supports local economic development and the achievement of national climate neutrality goals.
What does the handbook include?
In addition to the theoretical framework, the publication offers practical case studies, including examples of student hackathons, energy audit projects in schools, and the creation of “living labs” for sustainability. These real-world examples demonstrate how theory is translated into working solutions with measurable impact.
